Lord Nrsimhadeva's Appearance Day, May 7th, 2009
The past week has seen several exciting events here at New Goloka
Dham with many spiritual festivals, community programs and outreach
activities. On Lord Nrsimhadeva's Appearance Day another exalted
personality also made an appearance at New Goloka, namely His Holiness
Bhakti Charu Swami, renown spiritual teacher and close personal friend
of New Goloka founder Bir Krishna das
Goswami.
Lilasuka Dasi arrived in the afternoon with the ferocious deity form
of Lord Nrsimhadeva and all the devotees were busy making preparations
for an evening feast and program honoring the anniversary of when Lord
Sri Krishna in his incarnation of half-man half-lion Nrsimha saved his
devotee, Prahlad Maharaja, from the machinations of his demoniac father,
Hiranyakasipu.
The temple room was packed as the program began with an abhishek of
the deity with all participating in bathing the deity with the
assistance of the pujaris. After some convincing from Gurudeva, Bhakti
Charu Swami took the vyasana and gave a fascinating lecture on the
background story leading up to Lord Nrsimhadeva's manifestation in aid
of his devotee Prahlad. After than an ecstatic kirtan ensued with
nonstop dancing and chanting until completion.
Bhakti Charu Swami went around the temple room and gave everyone a
chance to lead the kirtan and even
those who were more reserved were unable to keep from being swept up in
the transcendental bliss of harinama sankirtana. The kirtan ended with
one final rousing rendition of the Nrsimha Prayers and then all
proceeded to the pavilion to enjoy delicious prasadam, associate with
devotees and do some after-dinner shopping at Radha's Treasures, the New
Goloka gift shop. Shoppers were greeted with the friendly smile of the
salesperson Rangadevi Dasi and her enthusiastic son as they entered into
a veritable paradise of spiritual items for purchase.
Lord Nrsimhadeva's Appearance Day at New Goloka Dham provided all
attendees with a memorable occasion full of transcendental bliss and
spiritual knowledge. We hope to see you at the next festival or Sunday
Love Feast here at ISKCON of North Carolina! Stay tuned to this section
for forthcoming reports of recent events. Chant Hare Krsna and be happy!
